(Brookville, Ind.) – A semi truck vs. SUV crash claimed the life of a Brookville woman and left a toddler fighting for its life.

The accident happened just north of Brookville at about 11:00 a.m. Monday, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies say a semi-trailer driven by Harjodh Singh Chahal, 28, of Guelph, Ontario, crossed the center line. The trailer then hit a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer driven by Brittany Dennison, 24, of Brookville.

Dennison died at the scene. A toddler in her car was taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

Chahal was not hurt.

State Road 1 was shut down between SR 101 and Reservoir Road for about six hours as police investigated the accident and cleared the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
