(Walton, Ky.) - There is at least one local race that remains undecided from Tuesday’s election.
Bobby McDonald and Olivia Ballou faced each other for a seat on Walton City Council. Election night totals show the two finished tied at 669 votes each for the last of six council seats. Eight candidates were running.
A recanvass of votes is possible if either of the candidates requests it, but Kentucky law does allow for ties to be decided by a coin flip. A recanvass request would have to be submitted by Tuesday, November 13.
McDonald told The Kentucky Enquirer his wife intended to vote for him, but she was too busy to make it to the polls on Election Day. Kentucky does not allow for early voting like that seen in Indiana and Ohio.
Because the City of Walton lies in both Boone and Kenton counties, the county clerk’s offices are working together on the matter.
