Woman Allegedly Gave Inmate Heroin In Court

(Brookville, Ind.) - A woman is accused of trying to give heroin to her boyfriend as he appeared for a hearing in a Franklin County courtroom last month.

 

Blake Robertson was in court along with several other inmates from the Franklin County Security Center on October 23, The Brookville American-Democrat reports. During the hearings, sheriff’s deputies noticed that Robertson spoke with his girlfriend, Morgan Smallwood, several times.

 

At the time of one of the conversations, a deputy saw Smallwood hand Robertson a small, folded piece of paper.

 

Another man who was in the courtroom, Anthony Byers, was arrested on a warrant. He was ordered to sit with the other inmates and next to Robertson. That’s when a deputy allegedly spotted Byers putting something between the two men and then stick an object into his pocket. Robertson later admitted to taking chewing tobacco from Byers.

 

During a strip search, deputies found inside Robertson’s shirt pocket  the folded paper containing a brown powdery substance. As a deputy unfolded the paper, Robertson allegedly blew the substance away. The deputy was able to recover enough of the powder which later tested positive for heroin.

 

A cigarette was also found on Robertson. He allegedly admitted to receiviong both the heroin and cigarette from Smallwood in the courtroom.

 

Smallwood, 20, of Connersville, is charged with Dealing in a Schedule I Controlled Substance (Class B felony) and Trafficking with an Inmate Outside a Facility (Class A misdemeanor).

 

Robertson, 20, of Connersville, is accused of Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class D felony).

 

Byers, 31, of Connersville, was charged with Trafficking with an Inmate Outside a Facility (Class A misdemeanor). He was arrested at the court hearing on a warrant for Resisting Law Enforcement, Disorderly Conduct, and Possession of Marijuana.
