(Switzerland County, Ind.) - A Frankfort, Kentucky woman died in a two-vehicle crash in Switzerland County Saturday afternoon.
Indiana State Police say Pauline Sandifer, 71, was killed when her 2010 Silver Hyundai was struck by a Toyota driven by Emily Harsin, 20, of Vevay at about 4:30 p.m.
Troopers say Sandifer failed to yield and turned from Bennett Road onto State Road 156 in front of Harsin’s westbound vehicle. Sandifer died at the scene.
Harsin was taken to Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison with non-life threatening injuries.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision, troopers said.
“According to the Indiana fatal crash statistics, the leading causes of fatal crashes are running off the road on the right, followed by failure to yield (or disregarding a signal or sign,) then unsafe speed. The Indiana State Police remain committed to reducing crashes, educating the public on the main causes of crashes and patrolling in high crash areas,” said ISP Trooper John Bowling.
