(Harrison, Oh.) - A Miamitown Marine unexpectedly died in his sleep last week.
Lance Corporal Charles New, 23, was being processed for an honorary discharge at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, when he apparently died in his sleep October 28. The 2007 Harrison High School graduate served in Iraq and Afghanistan, being wounded in action four times.
New was set to return to civilian life just two days after his death, which remains under investigation. His body arrived back in the tri-state on Friday, according to The Harrison Press.
The young soldier was the recipient of many awards including the Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation (Navy) and Navy Unit Commendation.
New’s visitation and funeral service took place Sunday at Harrison High School.
He was the son of Angie Long (Darrell Inman) and Charles (Kaye) New, Jr.
