(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - A fatal heroin overdose has led to Reckless Homicide charges against two men, one of whom is the victim’s stepfather.

Rick Eglian, Sr., of Lawrenceburg, and Christopher DeArmond, of Oklahoma, were charged Tuesday. Last April 13, Rick Eglian’s stepson Mike Eglian was found overdosed in a car parked at a home Short Street, investigators said in a court affidavit.

Detectives with the Dearborn County Special Crimes Unit say Rick Eglian and DeArmond allegedly did heroin with the victim when he overdosed at Lawrenceburg Village Apartments on Valley Drive. Witnesses told investigators that when Mike Eglian began foaming at the mouth and could not stand on his own, Rick Eglian and DeArmond carried him to DeArmond’s white Mercury Cougar.

Some of the witnesses to the overdose took cell phone video of the incident, which they later shared with detectives.

Police say the two men drove past Dearborn County Hospital before parking the car and leaving Mike Eglian inside and unattended on Short Street. They went to a nearby home to hide from police.

Medical records reviewed by police said Eglian had been overdosed in the car for about 30 minutes. By the time Eglian’s sister found him in the car and police were called, his breathing had become shallow and labored.

Mike Eglian, 37, died at University Hospital in Cincinnati the following night.

Family members told police that Rick Eglian did not appear at the hospital as Mike was being treated because “he’s on the run from police.” Relatives indicated that Rick Eglian was fleeing to Oklahoma with DeArmond.

It was unclear Friday whether Eglian or DeArmond have been arrested.
