(Burlington, Ky.) – A vehicle pursuit through Boone County ended when the suspects crashed a stolen car on Interstate 75 early Wednesday morning.
Boone County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Burlington Oaks Apartments on Taylor Drive in Burlington for a theft in progress at about 1:00 a.m. A resident witnessed two men stealing items from a parked car in the lot and loading them into a Buick, Boone County Sheriff’s spokesman Tom Scheben said.
The suspects left the apartments before deputies arrived, but a Florence Police officer soon spotted a vehicle matching the description. When that officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspects fled south on I-75.
The Buick crash near the Richwood exit and the suspects ran on foot.
Police and deputies attempted to track the suspects using a K9 team, but were unsuccessful. A man who emerged at the Truck Stop of America in Richwood covered in mud was questioned and ultimately released. The second suspect was never found.
Scheben said the suspect vehicle was stolen out of Covington, Kentucky but had yet to be reported. The stolen items from the initial call were located in the stolen car.
