(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – If somebody calls you on the telephone soliciting donations for the Lawrenceburg Police Department, don’t believe them.
The department has been receiving complaints from citizens regarding the calls. According to a LPD news release, some of the phone solicitations ask for money to help families. The department says all citizens should be aware that they are not asking for any kind of funding.
Anyone who receives such a call is asked to report it to the Lawrenceburg Police Department, (812) 537-2284.
Lawrenceburg Police also remind residents that with the holiday season approaching, there may be increased solicitation calls, many of which are scams. If a caller asks for personal information or credit card numbers over the phone, do not give them out.
Another scam to beware of is checks that come in the mail and ask the recipient to cash them, then mail off part of the money.
If you are not 100 percent sure, don’t do it, the department warns.
