(Dillsboro, Ind.) – Thousands of dollars in stolen property was recovered and a burglary suspect is in custody thanks to Dillsboro Police.

On Tuesday, October 23, Chief Ryan Brandt and Officer Josh Cady were notified of a burglary report at a home on 12067 Old U.S. 50 in Dillsboro. The homeowner told the officers that a 42” flat screen television, Xbox 360, laptop computer, and jewelry had been taken.

Police immediately had a crime scene technician and K-9 Unit dispatched to assist. The K9 team led them just south of the home to the area of the Dillsboro Townhouse Apartments.

Officers soon located suspect Matthew Ashley in the parking lot of the apartments and took him to the Dillsboro Police station for an interview. Meanwhile, Dillsboro Fire Department was called out for a search detail in a wooded area behind the apartment where they located the stolen television.

During questioning, Ashley ultimately confessed to the location of the remaining stolen property. Those items were recovered by Dillsboro Police at another apartment in the townhouses.

Ashley, 24, of Dillsboro, was arrested within six hours of the initial burglary call. He is charged with Burglary and Theft.

Ashley is currently being held in the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center on $150,000 surety and $2,500 cash bond.
