(Aurora, Ind.) - A lot of money is being poured into the race for Indiana’s U.S. Senate seat between Republican Richard Mourdock and Democrat Joe Donnelly.
Outside groups and the Democrat National Committee have contributed $7.6 million to prop up Donnelly, Indiana’s current 2nd District congressman. Nearly $10 million has been spent in support of Indiana State Treasurer Mourdock.
The candidates have also raised and spent large amounts themselves. According to the most recent election finance reports filed, Mourdock has spent $6.8 million for both the primary and the general election. He has about $1.1 million remaining in his war chest.
Donnelly has spent $3.8 million with close to $1 million remaining.
Mourdock will continue to raise funds in Aurora later this week. The GOP candidate is scheduled to attend a reception at the Dearborn County GOP Victory Center, 539 Green Boulevard/U.S. 50, on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The event is being hosted by State Senators Johnny Nugent and Jean Leising, Art and Ruth Ann Little, and Aurora Mayor Donnie Hastings, Jr.
Tickets and sponsorships for the event range from $25 up to $500.
