(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – The Lawrenceburg Fire Department wants city residents to know that a fundraiser is for helping the needy, not purchasing new equipment for the department.
Fire Chief Johnnie Tremain sent out a notice on Tuesday saying that the Lawrenceburg Fire Company, a division of the Lawrenceburg Fire Department, has elected to participate in a fundraiser that involves raising $10,000 and receiving an 8”x10” family portrait.
“There was some misinformation published into why we are doing this. We raise extra funds to contribute to needy children and families during the holiday season,” Tremain said.
According to the chief, a department representative did not have many choices of the wording for the letter. It incorrectly stated the fundraiser was to help the department upgrade and purchase new equipment.
“He chose (the wording) not fully understanding that the fire department has an operating budget and funds to replace existing equipment,” Tremain said.
Tremain apologized to citizens for the misunderstanding.
