A crash involving a school bus on U.S. 50 in Aurora on Wednesday afternoon has become fatal.
The accident happened at about 3:10 when the bus driven by Kerry M. Brunner, 54, of Aurora, was stopped to drop off a child and was rear-ended by a pickup truck driven by Billy Lee Cade, 80, of Aurora, according to the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department.
A passenger in the pickup truck, Helen McJury, 81, of Aurora, was seriously injured. She was transported to and later died at Dearborn County Hospital.
A 12-year-old student on the bus was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The other 24 children aboard the bus were checked by EMTs and sent home with their parents.
The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
Update posted at 4:47 p.m.:
South Dearborn Community Schools Administrative Assistant Jack Heller says that one student was injured when a school bus and pickup truck collided on U.S. 50 Wednesday afternoon.
The student was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, Heller said. All other students aboard the bus at the time of the crash were checked by EMTs and sent home. Parents of those students were notified of the accident.
A person riding in the pickup truck was taken to the hospital by aircare. That person's name and condition have not been released.
The accident is being investigated by the Dearborn County Sheriff's Department.
U.S. 50 at the accident scene has reopened.

(Aurora, Ind.) – At least one injury is being reported in a Wednesday afternoon accident involving a school bus on U.S. 50 in Aurora.
The accident was reported at about 3:10 p.m. when a school bus and pickup truck collided in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 50 near the Heart House. The South Dearborn Community Schools district, it is unclear if it was a South Dearborn bus that was involved.
Dispatchers said that children were aboard the bus at the time of the accident, however, preliminary reports indicate that an occupant of the pickup truck was the only person injured.
Aircare is being called to the Aurora Fire House to transport the victim to the hospital.
Traffic at the accident scene is being stopped, according to motorists.
