(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – The City of Lawrenceburg is contributing $60,000 to combat drugs in Dearborn County.
Lawrenceburg City Council voted unanimously to appropriate $60,000 to Dearborn County Citizens Against Substance Abuse. CASA Director Donna Thacker said the amount matches what the organization already has to award in the form of grants to law enforcement, treatment, and prevention.
"This is major", said Thacker. "Once again the City of Lawrenceburg has taken a proactive stance in allowing CASA to bring more money to programs that are working to improve life in our community. Just like they did by funding our operating expenses, they are setting a precedent that other communities should model."
CASA is the local coordinating council working with the Governor's Commission for a Drug Free Indiana. Established via an Indiana Statute, local coordinating councils use money collected at county level through drug fines to fund programs that work to address substance abuse issues in the community.
