Press release from Oldenburg Academy

(Oldenburg, Ind.) - After over a decade of serving as President of Oldenburg Academy, (OA) Sr. Therese Gillman, OSF announced Friday that she will be stepping down at the end of the 2012-2013 school year.

Gillman has been at the forefront of many pivotal changes in the history of the school, leading the charge as OA thrived and flourished into the institution it is today. Under her leadership, the first class of young men walked through the doors in the fall of the new millennium, and the first male principal was hired at the Academy six years later. Students of various nationalities enrolled under the FLAG Beyond program in 2010 and students’ personal worlds expanded with the implementation of the iPad 2 Program one year later. Sr. Therese’s legacy as an educator and leader will have a lasting impact on the Academy.

“My twelve years serving as President of the Academy have enriched my life tremendously. It is because of our outstanding Board of Trustees, benefactors, faculty, staff, students and parents that together we have achieved many successes and goals that have brought us to where we are today. Our future promises to be bright as we continue to expand our academic and co-curricular programs.”

As the Academy launches into its 160th anniversary, it is quickly proving that there has never been a more exciting time to be connected to the school. The new President will embrace the leadership of not only an A-rated school (by the Indiana Department of Education,) but also one with a preeminent fine arts program. In the Athletics department, at the heart of the excitement is the Football initiative, as the Oldenburg Academy Twisters will begin their inaugural season as a JV squad in August 2013.

The Executive Committee and the Board of Trustees will begin the process of finding a new head by assembling a Search Committee within the coming weeks.  Once the Search Committee is formed, the official pursuit for a President will commence with selections being made in the spring and the Academy’s new President taking office July 1, 2013.
