(Greendale, Ind.) - Nobody was hurt when a car was partially swallowed by a construction hole in Greendale this morning.
The two door car was heading south on Ridge Avenue near the Lawrenceburg Distillery at about 6:00 a.m. when it fell part way into the three- to four-foot-deep hole and came to a sudden stop.
Greendale Police Sgt. Kendal Davis said the hole had been covered by a large steel plate that had slid away, exposing the hole.
It took crews a little over an hour to remove the car from the hole. The vehicle had to be towed away.
No construction workers were on the scene at the time of the accident. Utility crews have been working on water lines in that area for a few weeks.
