leaves(Rising Sun, Ind.) – Most folks enjoy the shades of red, orange and brown that tree leaves begin to turn in October.

What they don’t get pleasure from is having to rake the fallen leaves out of their yards. But, the City of Rising Sun is ready to help its residents.

The city says leaf pickup will Monday, October 22. Residents are asked to rake their leaves into a row along the street curb so that the leaf-sucking truck can haul them away. The city is issuing some other guidelines for leaf pickup:

No garbage or large sticks are to be placed in the leaves.

Piles are not to be raked along side of mailbox posts, signs, or any trees with low hanging branches the could interfere with the truck’s swinging arm.

Leaves will be picked up on a street to street basis. Homeowners will not need to call to request leaf pickup.

The city also reminds residents that they are required to bag up yard clippings and leaves using biodegradable bags. The bags are available at Valley Supply, Tandy’s IGA, Wal-Mart, and Kroger.

Chipping will stop during leaf pickup, however, small brush pickup will continue.

Residents with questions should call the City of Rising Sun at (812) 438-3340.
