Alcohol A Factor In Double Fatal Crash

(New Liberty, Ky.) – A suspected drunk driving crash early Tuesday morning in Owen County has claimed the lives of two passengers.

 

Kentucky State Police say the crash happened at about 2:00 a.m. when a car driven by Michael Grubb, 26, of Georgetown, Kentucky, went off Kentucky Highway 35 near New Liberty and rolled several times. Troopers say nobody in the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt.

 

A passenger – Justin Renfro, 24, of Owenton - died at the scene. A second passenger - Drew Mason, 26, of Sparta – was seriously injured and died later in the afternoon at University of Cincinnati Hospital.

 

Grubb is still recovering in the hospital. He was aircared to UC for serious injuries.

 

No charges have been filed yet as troopers continue to investigate the crash.

 

Kentucky State Police were assisted at the scene by the Owen County Sheriff’s Department, Owen County Life Squad, Owen County Rescue, Owen County Fire Department, and the New Liberty Fire Department.
