(Milan, Ind.) – A lot of work and time went into fixing up the youth football field at Milan’s Baker Town Park this summer.
At the start of the summer, the field was in such bad shape that local peewee football teams have been forced to play their games at the field at Milan High School. Milan resident Chris Kelly took it upon himself to fix up the youth field. He gathered donations for supplies and seeded the grass last month.
It took weeks to complete the project. Unfortunately, it only took vandals a few minutes to tear up the field.
Milan Town Marshal Gary Skaggs said somebody drove a vehicle through the field doing doughnuts and tearing up newly planted grass that was just beginning to grow. The vandalism occurred sometime Wednesday night.
“It’s unfortunate somebody disrespected the field that way,” Skaggs said, adding that he believes the field can be repaired, but it will take some time.
Chris Kelly is now offering a $500 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Tips can be relayed to the Milan Police Department at (812) 654-2211. Callers can remain anonymous.
