(Rising Sun, Ind.) - A large barn fire was fueled by burning hay bales in Rising Sun Wednesday afternoon.

The blaze was reported at about 4:30 in a barn at 7582 Palmer Road. About 220 hay bales inside were all charred, said Rising Sun Fire Department public information officer Nick Levi.

Rising Sun firefighters, with help from Bear Branch and East Enterprise fire departments, were able to save most of the barn structure. Firefighters were on scene for about 2 ½ hours. Ohio County EMS and the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department also assisted at the scene.

Damage was estimated at around $6,000. No animals were inside the barn.

A cause of the barn fire is under investigation.
