(Batesville, Ind.) - A 71-year-old Batesville man is facing child molestation charges after he told police of the alleged incidents.

William Robert Ward, Sr. went to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office on September 13 to voluntarily confess to molesting multiple children, The Versailles Republican newspaper reports. Ward detailed the encounters with the victims - who were all uynder the age of 14 - during a taped interview with investigators.

After learning of the allegations, police interviewed the victims who verified there had been inappropriate contact.

Ward faces three counts of Child Molesting in Ripley County and two more counts in Franklin County. He is currently out of jail on bond.

A jury trial has been scheduled in Ripley Circuit Court for March 5, 2013.
