(Ripley County, Ind.) – Ripley County residents are being warned of a scam involving a local church.

Sheriff Tom Grills says an older man and a younger, thin woman have been reported going door-to-door in the Elrod area. They are asking for monetary donations for Hop Baptist Church in Dillsboro.

One problem. Hope Baptist Church is denying involvement.

Grills said the subjects are possibly in a small, red passenger car or a white pickup truck.
