A Sunman woman is dead after being struck by a car in the pre-dawn hours Thursday on a rural Ripley County Road.
At about 4:31 a.m., Ripley County Communications received a report of a pedestrian struck in the roadway on State Road 129 just south of State Road 48 in the Delaware area.
Ripley County Sheriff Tom Grills said the investigation into the accident has revealed Christina Foster, 38, was in the roadway when she was struck by a northbound 1993 Toyota passenger car driven by Scottie Taulbee, 54, of Dillsboro.
Foster was pronounced dead at the scene.
“It is unknown at this time why Foster was near the middle of a heavily traveled highway at that time in the morning. The driver has not been cited in the crash at this time,” Grills said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office. Anybody with information is urged to contact the sheriff’s office at (812) 689-5558.
Deputy Kendall Hankins is the investigating officer, and being assisted by Sheriff Tom Grills. Deputy Hankins and Sheriff Grills were assisted at the scene by Delaware Fire, Ripley County Medics, Rescue 10, Ripley County Coroner, Batesville PD, and the Indiana State Police.

(Ripley County, Ind.) – Police are investigating a report of a body found on or near State Road 129 in Ripley County.
Ripley County Sheriff’s investigators were called to the highway at about 4:30 a.m. Thursday. The discovery was made north of the town of Delaware.
The dead person’s name or manner of death have not been released.
Police remain on scene. State Road 129 is closed between State Road 350 and State Road 48.
