(Brookville, Ind.) - Nineteen people are arrested in the largest drug sweep in Franklin County history.

Early Thursday morning, Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies and other area law enforcement agencies served 12 felony warrants and three search warrants in an ongoing undercover drug investigation which began in January 2011. The blitz resulted in 19 total arrests.

Officers organized at the Franklin County Security Center in Brookville during the early morning hours. The county-wide sweep began at 5:00 and was over by 8:30 with all suspects in custody.

Sheriff Ken Murphy said more arrests are forthcoming.

“This has been an outstanding collaborative effort on the part of law enforcement and the citizens of Franklin County,” Murphy said. “We received excellent information and cooperation from our citizens. Prosecutor (Melvin) Wilhelm provided financial assistance in the form of drug buy money and Stayin’ Alive Local Coordinating Council provided grant dollars to cover the man hours involved.”

Murphy said his department would be working with the prosecutor’s office in an effort to seek restitution for all expenses incurred in each of these investigations.

“We want to send a message, if you are going to deal or deliver drugs in Franklin County you are going to pay a heavy price. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and the Task Force are working very hard to keep our community safe and inviting to persons who live, visit and work in our county,” Murphy said.
