(Cleves, Oh.) - A fundraiser Wednesday will help a local Marine injured in Afghanistan.

Lance Corporal Chad Ohmer, of North Bend, was injured last Memorial Day weekend in the war-torn country when an improvised explosive device, or IED, detonated near him.

Friends have organized a benefit at the Skyline Chili in Cleves for the 2006 Taylor High School graduate. From 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., the restaurant will donate 10 percent of its sales to Ohmer and his family.

There will also be a split the pot, bake sale, and t-shirt sale going on. Donations can also be made directly to the Fifth Third Bank account set up in Ohmer’s name.

Ohmer and his wife are expecting their first child, a baby girl, as he recovers at Walter Reed Bethesda Hospital in Washington, D.C.

The Marine rifleman was on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan when he was injured. He had also been hurt in his first deployment, but was able to recover. The most recent injuries were to his legs, which require several surgies in order to ensure he can someday walk again.

The restaurant is located at 250 South Miami Avenue in Cleves.
