(Erlanger, Ky.) - There are reports that Erlanger-based airline Comair may soon be grounded for good.
The regional carrier is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Delta Air Lines. The larger national airline purchased the once-thriving Comair for nearly $2 billion in 1999.
WCPO-TV reports pilots and other Comair employees believe the targeted closing date is October 1. The report found that a search for flights on Delta’s website shows a different regional carrier handling flights from Cincinnati to LaGuardia after October 1.
A Delta spokesperson told the television station that "In view of significant changes in the economic and competitive conditions in the regional airline industry in recent years, Delta continues to explore strategic alternatives for Comair, as previously announced."
