(Indianapolis, Ind.) - The Indiana Supreme Court's newest chief justice is the justice with the most experience on the high court.

The Indiana Judicial Nomination Commission selected justice Brent Dickson to take the position vacated earlier this year by retired justice Randall Shepard. Dickson had been serving as the interim chief justice.

Dickson, 70, has been on the state Supreme Court longer than any other current member. He was appointed by then-Governor Robert Orr in 1986.

There is yet another role to fill on the court. Justice Frank Sullivan announced his pending August retirement just weeks after Shepard.

Suillivan’s replacement will be the third selected by Governor Mitch Daniels. Mark Massa was tapped to replace Shepard.
