(Indianapolis, Ind.) - You're not likely to hear much out of Indiana Democrats this election season about the national gay marriage debate. 

Gubernatorial candidate John Gregg’s thoughts mirror those of his Republican opponent Mike Pence. 

“I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. I am a supporter of traditional marriage,” Gregg said.

State Democratic Party Chairman Dan Parker said the marriage issue will not be a major part of the campaign in the state.  

Congressman Joe Donnelly, the Democrat candidate for U.S. Senate, stated last week that he opposes President Obama on same-sex marriage. Donnelly would rather focus on job creation.

"Every day I wake up in the morning and say how can we put another family to work in Anderson," he told the Associated Press. "That's what I think is important."

Indiana’s constitution already defines marriage as between one man and one woman.

Even so, state lawmakers will vote on a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage in 2013. If it passes the legisalture, Hoosier voters will decide on the amendment in 2014.
