Controlled Explosives Used In Bridge Demo

(Madison, Ind.) - The Milton-Madison Bridge remains off limits to traffic.

 

Crowds gathered along the Indiana banks of the Ohio River Wednesday – the first day of a five day closure - to watch demolition crews use controlled explosives to eliminate a 150-foot section of the bridge ramp.

 

The Milton bridge approach was removed with heavy equipment.

 

In the next few days, a new temporary ramp will be connected. That will allow for a new ramp to be built in preparation of a new Milton-Madison Bridge which will open later this year.

 

The bridge is scheduled to reopen to traffic on Sunday. Meanwhile, drivers must cross the river at either Markland Dam or Louisville.
