(Greensburg, Ind.) - A pro-right to work candidate for Indiana House District 67 has been endorsed by a firefighters union.

Randy Frye is a Greensburg Republican running for re-election this year against Democrat challenger Tom Cheek, of Aurora.

Frye, a former Indianapolis firefighter himself, received the endorsement of the Professional Firefighters’ Union of Indiana on April 12.

"You have been an effective and conscientious leader in the General Assembly during your first term, something government needs now more than ever. You have been committed towards improving safety, protecting public pensions, and watching out for the interests of firefighters and their families," the union stated in the endorsement of Frye.

Frye said he was honored to have the endorsement.

"These folks represent the best and most committed among us and I am proud to be counted as a leader worthy of their support," he said.

Frye voted for Indiana’s right to work law during the 2012 legislative session. The new law prevents companies and unions from having agreements requiring non-union employees to pay a fee as a condition of employment.

Earlier this week, Cheek received the endorsement of the Indiana AFL-CIO.
