(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - A local soldier has earned a prestigious military honor for the sacrifice he made in service to his country.
Army Pfc. Brett Bondurant, 20, was injured in an improvised explosive device explosion in Afghanistan on September 28. He lost both legs at or near the knees and suffered burns in the attack.
Bondurant was awarded the Purple Heart last week according to posts made by his family on the "Prayers for Brett Bondurant" Facebook page.
The 2009 Lawrenceburg High School graduate continues to recover in a Texas military hospital. Relatives tell Eagle 99.3 it may be a few more months before Bondurant is able to return to southeast Indiana.
