(Vevay, Ind.) - A crash sent the Vevay Police chief and an officer both to the hospital Monday afternoon.
Chief James Richards and Officer Peter Schonfeld were working a traffic stop on State Road 56 at Maple Street when an oncoming box truck hit Schonfeld’s cruiser at about 1:30. That cruiser than hit the chief’s cruiser.
Schonfeld was standing outside his vehicle. He was thrown into a ditch near the road from the impact.
Schonfeld was taken by aircare to University Hospital in Cincinnati. He was released from the hospital overnight. Chief Richards was treated and released Monday from Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison.
Police have not identified the driver of the box truck. It is unclear if that person may be charged.
The accident is being investigated by Vevay Police Department and the Indiana State Police.
