News release from Ivy Tech Community College
(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – Ivy Tech Corporate College, in conjunction with Career Step, has scheduled a public informational session concerning career training programs in the healthcare industry. Career Step is a leading online allied health education company. The meeting will be from 5:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Ivy Tech’s Lawrenceburg Riverfront Campus, 50 Walnut Street.
Current economic conditions, which have resulted in a reduced number of jobs in many industries, and one of the highest unemployment rates in decades, prompted the meeting. The importance of the gathering was magnified by the fact the healthcare industry is experiencing dramatic job growth with the U. S. Department of Labor estimating 3.2 million new jobs will be created before 2018. A majority of these jobs will require less than four years of college education.
Medical transcription, medical coding/billing, medical administrative assisting and pharmacy tech are among the healthcare positions in high demand. The Department of Labor says the medical transcription field will experience 11 percent job growth, medical coding and billing a 20 percent growth, medical administrative assistants 27 percent growth, and pharmacy techs 30 percent job growth. Ivy Tech Corporate College provides area residents the opportunity to quickly gain the education required to qualify for these jobs and for national certifications.
Ivy Tech Southeast Chancellor Jim Helms says, “It is important that we educate the population in our service areas concerning growing career fields and to explain how they can quickly obtain the skills necessary for employment and certification. Job opportunities exist in the healthcare industry. In today’s economy it is important for people to know they can access fast-track, practical, job-based training and career opportunities in less than a year.”
The October 20th meeting will be held at the Riverfront Campus fourth floor Business Conference Room. Specific details of training programs and services offered will be highlighted. Persons attending the session will also learn about the school’s free laptop offer to persons enrolling in the new programs.
