(Versailles, Ind.) – A Ripley County reserve deputy is facing charges of child abuse.
Zeb Hildebrand, 30, is charged with Batter Causing Serious Bodily Injury and Aggravated Battery. An arrest warrant was issued Monday and the Holton resident turned himself into police Tuesday, the Versailles Republican newspaper reports.
Hildebrand’s infant child was recently hospitalized with subdural hematoma and liver lacerations. At first, Hildebrand claimed the injuries were caused by a fall, but later admitted to shaking the baby.
The incident happened prior to Hildebrand joining the sheriff’s department.
Hildebrand is being held in the Dearborn County jail because of his status as a law enforcement officer in Ripley County. He’s scheduled to appear in Ripley Circuit Court on Monday.
