(Brookville, Ind.) - An autopsy has been done on a murder suspect who hung himself at the Franklin County Jail in Brookville.
Luis Antonio Gonzalez, 31, was being held for the March 21 murder of two-year-old Sapphyre Putney. He allegedly beat the child with fatal injuries while her mother was at work.
Gonzalez was charged June 23 and arrested at his home in Harrison the same day.
Gonzalez was held at the Franklin County Jail to await his trial which would never be necessary. Jailers found Gonzalez hanging from an air vent in his jail cell on the morning of July 30.
Those jail employees attempted to revive Gonzalez, but were unsuccessful.
Autopsy results released this week by the Franklin County Coroner confirmed Gonzalez died from asphyxia due to hanging from suicide. The autopsy was performed by the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office in Cincinnati.
With Gonzalez’s death, the Putney murder case has been closed.
