(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – A speeding driver did his best to run from police on foot Wednesday in Lawrenceburg, but he was not fast enough.
An Indiana State Police trooper attempted to stop a 1999 Pontiac for speeding on U.S. 50 in Lawrenceburg about 3:40 a.m. Instead of stopping, the driver, Joseph S. Schuler, tried to evade the trooper.
Schuler, 25, of Lawrenceburg, drove off U.S. 50 at Tanners Creek drive where his vehicle went behind Arby’s Restaurant and continued west on the access road toward JTS Plaza. The trooper briefly lost sight of the vehicle and discovered the vehicle ran off the access road over the embankment back toward U.S. 50 where the vehicle crashed into the ditch.
Schuler then allegedly tried to run away. After a short foot pursuit, he was taken into custody.
After Schuler refused a certified breath test, the trooper obtained a warrant for a blood draw and transported him to Dearborn County Hospital. Schuler would not cooperate as hospital employees tried to obtain the sample.
Schuler is now being held at the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center where he is facing charges of Operating A Vehicle While Intoxicated (refusal), Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Resisting Law Enforcement, and Obstruction of Justice.
