Indiana State Fair stage collapse.
(Indianapolis, Ind.) - A 71-page document released by the Indiana State Fair Commission shows there was no detailed evacuation plan for the fair in case of bad weather.
The documents were released yesterday as part of the investigation into the August 13 stage collapse that killed seven people before a Sugarland concert. About 40 other people were hurt.
The document has details on procedures that should be followed, but has no information on what would trigger any evacuation of the grounds. The severe weather portion of the plan was covered in one page.
Fair officials contend the decision to evacuate had been made but not announced before a massive gust of wind took down the stage.
The state fair’s emergency response plan has been made available for public viewing online at http://www.in.gov/sfc/files/Indiana_State_Fair_Commission_Emergency_Response_Plan.pdf.
