(Versailles, Ind.) - An inmate who should be behind bars at the Ripley County Jail remains on the run Tuesday.
Stanley Short, 42, of Sunman and Robert Huskey, 63, of Lawrenceburg escaped from the jail in Versailles on Sunday morning.
Huskey was caught early Monday morning, but Short – who was being held on a rape charge – is still out there.
Ripley County Sheriff Tom Grills detailed the men’s daring escape Monday.
“They were able to pry open the recreation yard fence enough to shimmy through, scale a fence, jump over razor wire to a canopy and then scale down another fence,” Grills said, adding the jail then went on lockdown and all programs were ceased.
Jail operations are back to normal at this time, he said.
There were reports following the jailbreak that Short and Huskey may have received outside assistance during their escape. Grills said he cannot confirm that information yet.
Grills and his deputies remained hard at work on Labor Day Monday tracking the fugitive Short.
If anybody sees Short or knows of his whereabouts, they are asked to contact the Ripley County Sheriff's Office at 812-689-5555.
