(Vevay, Ind.) - One of southeast Indiana’s most popular festivals got underway Thursday.
It’s the 40th year for the Swiss Wine Festival in Vevay. The festival runs through Sunday.
“There are over 100 different wines you can taste,” said Angie Satterfield, destination and business manager with the Switzerland County Recreation, Tourism, and Convention Commission.
There is wine tasting, but also plenty of activities for the entire family including riverboat cruises on the Ohio River, grape stomping, a cheerleader competition, and booths featuring arts, crafts, and food.
The Grand Festival Parade takes place Saturday morning at 10:00. That will be followed by the Celebrity Grape Stomp at noon, in which Eagle 99.3 news director Mike Perleberg will be participating.
Fireworks begin Saturday night at 10:00.
Festival goers can also participate in the Steintossen contest where they see who can chuck an 83 pound rock the furthest. It will be Saturday at 5:00 and Sunday at 3:00.
“The events keep going and going. It never stops,” said Satterfield.
