(Bright, Ind.) – He served decades as one of Dearborn County’s leaders in emergency response.
On Friday, Michael Davis died. He was 66-years-old.
Davis served 37 years as president, Lieutenant, and safety officer of Bright Volunteer Fire and EMS. Other positions he held over the years included secretary of the Dearborn County Fire Chief’s Association, advisory board member for Dearborn County Emergency Management, member and instructor of the Community Emergency Response Team, member of the Local Emergency Planning Committee, and part of the District 9 Planning Council of Indiana Homeland Security.
Davis had also lent 20 years of service to the Dearborn and Ohio Counties Red Cross, at one point serving as Chairman of the Board.
He retired in 2003 from a role as safety manager at Fluor Fernald, but continued to find ways to help his community. He was a part time bus driver from Sunman-Dearborn Schools and volunteered as a maintenance technician for his church, Dearborn Hills United Methodist Church in Bright.
Davis’ visitation will be Tuesday, August 23 from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Dearborn Hills UMC. His funeral takes place Wednesday at 11:00 a.m.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Davis; sons Jonathan and Matthew; daughter Anna Beeler; brother Edward; sister Anna; and four grandchildren.
His family asks that memorial donations be made to Bright Volunteer Fire and EMS or Dearborn Hills UMC.
