(Dayton, Ky.) - Authorities are investigating and classmates are grieving after a Boone County High School student died in a boating accident on the Ohio River.
Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Resources says two boats - one 18-feet and another 38-feet - crashed on the water near the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge and Watertown Marina in Dayton, Ky. just after midnight Saturday morning.
The five people in the shorter boat were thrown into the water.
One of those victims was 17-year-old Timothy A. Hagedorn, of Florence. His body was pulled from the river later Saturday.
Four other victims were taken to University of Cincinnati Hospital, two of them with serious injuries. Their names have not been released.
No occupants of the larger boat were injured.
Hagedorn had just begun his senior year at Boone County High School. He was also involved with the Hebron Fire Department.
Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Resources is continuing their investigation into the deadly accident.
