A major slip which has had State Road 62 near Frienship closed since April 26. NMLRA |
(Friendship, Ind.) - State Road 62 east of Friendship in Ripley County has been closed for 114 days, and there it is not likely to reopen anytime soon according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.
INDOT’s Seymour District, which covers much of southeast Indiana, is planning a fix for the highway which was washed out April 26 following heavy rains this past Spring.
“The Seymour District has received the Geo-tech report and pavement evaluation report for this project. INDOT is in the process of working on the required environmental documents, utility coordination, right of way acquisition, cross sections, and plans in order to be submitted for an expedited contract,” the department said.
The estimated $1.7 million project would be funded through approved Emergency Relief Funds.
INDOT says no letting date for the contract has been set, but the department wants to get work started as soon as possible.
“The safety of the motoring public is INDOT’s main concern” states Kathy Eaton-McKalip, Seymour District Deputy Commission.
