U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents
reveal $640,000 found inside a shipment at
the DHL facility at the Cincinnati-Northern
Kentucky International Airport.
(Hebron, Ky.) – Is anybody missing $640,000?
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials are trying to track down the person who shipped thousands of dollars inside tortilla presses. The cash was seized at Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky Airport.
Customs agents found the $639,700 worth of bills stuffed inside the machines Saturday at the DHL hub. They became suspicious of the package after viewing through an X-ray.
The packages were being delivered from Mexico to Colombia.
David Murphy, CBP director of field operations in Chicago, said this is the largest seizure of bulk currency in the history of U.S. Customs in Cincinnati.
“The interdiction further demonstrates the commitment of our CBP officers to disrupt the flow of illicit currency which could be used to finance criminal enterprises. This is yet another outstanding seizure by a group of CBP officers who work throughout the night protecting this country while the rest of the nation is asleep,” Murphy said.
