(Sandborn, Ind.) - He’s been travelling around the state fundraising, but now John Gregg has made it official.
The former Speaker of the Indiana House filed paperwork Tuesday with the State Election Division to run for governor. He had been fundraising through an exploratory committee formed in May.
“Hoosiers are saying they want leadership that focuses on putting people back to work, not the same old political games from career politicians. I want Hoosiers to know that I hear them, and I am committed to building an even better Indiana. Now let’s get to work,” Gregg said in announcing his candidacy.
Right now, Gregg is the only Democrat running in the 2012 primary.
If he wins the party primary election, Gregg would likely face Republican Mike Pence, who is leaving Congress to run for governor, in the general election.
Gregg was Speaker of the Indiana House of Representatives from 1996 to 2002. He has been with the lawfirm of Bingham McHale more recently.
