(Bright, Ind.) – Bright area residents raising their concerns won’t be barking up the wrong tree if they go to the newest mayor.
The first ever unofficial Mayor of Bright was elected during the Bright Community Festival Saturday.
The election cost a dollar a vote with proceeds going to the Bright Volunteer Fire Department and the Bright Masonic Lodge, who took a page out of the book of Rabbit Hash, Kentucky for the fundraising idea.
Ember the dog received the most votes via contributions put into marked barrels for each candidate at the festival to become the town’s first mayor.
The two runner-ups were also canines. Annie was named Vice Mayor and Princess Joy was named Secretary of “Steak.”
A goat and rooster were also among the 30 candidates the running for mayor.
Ember’s term will last one year, until she is re-elected or defeated by another candidate during next year’s festival.
