(Holton, Ind.) – A couple trucking together were airlifted to the hospital after their semi crashed on U.S. 50 near Holton Tuesday night.
Ripley County Sheriff’s deputies say Patrick P. Allen, 41, of Batesville, was driving east on U.S. 50 west of Holton near County Road 950 West when the tractor trailer went off the left side of the roadway at about 8:21 p.m. The truck collided with a guard rail before careening over an embankment and into a small lake.
The truck came to a rest on its side, entrapping Allen and his passenger and wife, Tomya Allen, 37.
Firefighters worked to extricate the Allens from the tractor. They were each taken by medical helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment of internal injuries.
Authorities had to shut down U.S. 50 at the crash scene for several hours overnight as crews worked to clear the wrecked truck.
The accident is currently under investigation by the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office who were assisted at the scene by Rescue 69, Ripley County Medic, Holton Fire, Versailles Fire, Jennings County Medic, Milan Rescue 30, Holton Police Department, Osgood Police Department, Versailles Police Department, Indiana State Police and Ripley County Emergency Management.
