(Aurora, Ind.) – A small business is dealing with a big headache after it was broken into last week.
The burglary happened between 1:00 a.m. and noon Friday, July 15 at the Cottage Bar at 145 West Conwell Street.
Bar owner Jennell Scudder tells Eagle 99.3 the thief, or thieves, got in by tearing out a window air conditioning unit.
Once inside, the crooks swiped close to $500 in cash, 63 bottles of liquor, cases of beer and soda. Plenty of damage, such as the busted window and a vandalized cash register, was left behind.
“I’ve been here three years and this is the first time I’ve ever been broken into,” Scudder said.
A dollar bill collection at the bar was also taken. Those bills had been signed by bar patrons.
Det. Vernon McBride said the bills should be distinguishable because of the large signatures many patrons had put on them using permanent marker. They may also show traces of scotch tape or torn edges.
If you have information on The Cottage Bar break-in, call the Aurora Police Department at (812) 926-1101.
Despite the mess Scudder was able to open the bar by 4:00 p.m. Friday, in time for the weekend crowd.
“The officers on the scene did an awesome job,” said Scudder.
