(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - A new look school calendar will have Lawrenceburg students getting a shorter summer break, but also some longer breathers during the school year.
The Lawrenceburg school board has recently approved a balanced calendar for 2012-2013. The district held meetings with teachers and parents to talk about the idea over the past few months.
This coming 2011-12 school year at Lawrenceburg has the first student day set for August 15, but the balanced calendar for the following 2012-13 year has the first student day on August 2.
Also, school lets out this coming year on May 18, but the 2012-13 calendar would make May 30 the last day, barring any make up days tacked on at the end of the year.
There will also be a 12 day fall break from October 8 to 19 and a 12 day Christmas break from December 24 to January 4. A 12 day spring break March 18 through 29 includes built-in snow make up days from the 18th through 22nd.
High school graduation would be pushed back from Friday, May 25 in 2012 to Saturday, June 8 in 2013.
The new calendar layout also more evenly spreads days between the two semesters. The 2011-12 calendar has 88 student days in the first semester and 92 in the second. In 2012-13, the semesters are evened to 89 days in the first semester and 91 in the second.
