Luis A. Gonzalez
(Brookville, Ind.) – A Franklin County mother’s live-in boyfriend is being charged with murdering her two-year-old daughter.
Indiana State Police say officers were dispatched to the Big Cedar Trailer Court near Brookville on March 12 for a report of an unresponsive child. Sapphyre Putney was taken to Harrison Medical Center in Harrison, Ohio where she was pronounced dead.
On Thursday, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Luis Antonio Gonzalez, 31, on charges of Murder and Battery Resulting in Death, both Class A felonies. He was arrested later in the afternoon at his apartment on Harrison Avenue in Harrison, which he has been sharing with the victim’s mother since the incident.
Investigators say Gonzalez had been babysitting Sapphyre overnight while the mother worked third shift. When the mother arrived home from work she found the child unresponsive in her bed and called 911.
Just recently, final autopsy results were released by the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office which indicated the child died of blunt impact injuries to her abdomen resulting in a laceration to her small intestine and a pancreatic injury.
Gonzalez is currently being held in the Hamilton County Detention Center in Cincinnati, OH pending extradition back to Franklin County.
