A Bright mayor campaign sign for Leather the pig. The Bright Beacon |
(Bright, Ind.) - Submissions continue to flow in for the Mayor of Bright.
The Bright Masonic Lodge swiped the idea from Rabbit Hash, Kentucky to make an animal the local mayor. Bright is located in unincorporated Dearborn County, so it has no real mayor or even a town council.
Organizers say they have received lots of submissions for dogs and cats. Even a goat, a pig, and a rooster have been nominated.
As of June 20, the top five vote getters at Annie (dog), Mandi Marie (dog), Ember (dog), Elvis (rooster), and Princess Joy (dog).
Voting at Bright area businesses ends June 30. The top three finalists will ride on a firetruck in the Bright Community Festival parade July 30 before the new mayor is named.
For $1 each, a person can vote as many times as they like. Proceeds will be split among the Bright Masonic Lodge and the Bright Volunteer Fire Department.
