(Rising Sun, Ind.) - A Rising Sun lawyer says he is running for congress in 2012.

Lane Siekman announced earlier this month he had formed an exploratory committee for a run at the 6th District seat in 2011.

Siekman says on his blog he has decided to run as a Democrat. He also solicits donations for his campaign on his Facebook page.

The self-described moderate is the city attorney for Rising Sun, executive director of the Ohio County Economic Development Commission, and an adjunct professor at Ivy Tech Community College.

Siekman ran for state senator in 1990, but lost to Republican Johnny Nugent.

Before he can face a Republican on the ballot in 2012, Siekman will have to win the Democrat nomination. In a primary race he would face Hanover College professor and Jefferson County Democrat Party chairman Jim Crone, who announced his intentions in April.
